5 Unforgettable Advertisements that will make you smile

SocialAdm October 12, 2023 2 Comments

In the ever-evolving landscape of marketing and advertising, the power of a smile has consistently proven to be a universal language that transcends cultural boundaries and resonates with audiences worldwide. In this blog, we’ll take a closer look at five remarkable smile-centric advertisements by brands that not only tugged at our heartstrings but also left an indelible mark in the advertising world. These campaigns go beyond the superficiality of grins; they harness the genuine, heartwarming power of a smile to connect, inspire, and drive change.

1. “Wear a Smile” by Urban Company

A mixture of long shots, mid shots, establishing shots, and close-ups, this advertisement intends to strike a chord among the customers by implementing the idea with a middle-class family. The mother of the family is shown as the speaker hence showcasing the underlying emotions of care and affection. The blue undertone in the video signifies the sadness associated with the pandemic. The clever use of music to attune the viewers to the emotions they are trying to imply has been well implemented. The use of a mixture of Hindi and English in the voiceover in order to target different age groups has certainly had its charm. With over 52,000+ views on YouTube, this ad is surely one of the best.

2. Sparkling White Smiles and Healthy Teeth by Happydent

Set in a completely fictional town, this ad has its own fanbase. The time period described in the ad is that of the kings with grand chandeliers and big royal cars to escort the royalty. It starts with a guy, dressed like one of the workers of the palace, running towards the palace. The camera paces with him to the palace and uncovers the whole village through these shots. With catchy tunes and elaborate sets, this ad surely is made to seem impressive to the eyes and not just the mind.

The idea of using people’s smiles to light up the room has been taken denotatively and surely put to clever use. With 36,000+ views on YouTube itself, this ad has been a people’s favorite for over ten years now. In 2015, it was chosen as one of the top 20 ads of the 21st century by the International Gunn Report according to an article by Economic Times.

3. We are stronger when we smile by Colgate

Colgate attempts to put out a rather powerful message with this ad campaign of theirs. Instead of adopting ways such as associating the brand with a topical event or completely setting it off on fiction, Colgate Malaysia has put out a message to the public in collaboration with Airliftz, a singer. The idea associated with this ad is to spread kindness with a smile. Going with the literal meaning of an ad campaign, they have released a series of 30-second videos and one director’s cut.

The smaller videos follow the underconfident protagonists who feel at peace when the other character smiles at them. The director’s cut, however, is the most special of them as it captures a real story. This ad campaign by Colgate surely proves how powerful a smile can be. With over 9.3 million views on YouTube, this ad campaign by Colgate surely proves how powerful a smile can be.

4. Smile Deke Dekho by Lay’s India

This ad campaign by Lay’s has a rather interesting approach. The ads made in this campaign have cast the real-life couple – Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor. Attempting to strike a chord with the fanbase of these stars, Lay’s has also invested money to make a song which is produced by Sony India and is sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Amit Trivedi. With a catchy song, the content is rather lighthearted and leans towards the romance between the protagonists.

With a yellow undertone and colorful sets, the ad looks lively and playful. Lay’s is credited for bringing in some powerful ad campaigns and this ad campaign will surely make you smile. In an interview with ET, Lay’s revealed that the ad has created 70 million impressions across various platforms.

5. Smile for a good day by Good Day

This ad by Good Day will surely put a smile on your face any day. Deepika shines in the entire video showcasing a beautiful smile that involuntarily makes everyone around her smile. Consisting of mostly wide-angle shots, mid-close-up shots, and mid-shots, the video has underlying warm tones to enhance the message they are attempting to convey. Along with the visually pleasing elements, the content in the voiceover is impactful and lingers in your mind for some time. “Muskurane me kanjoosi kaise” which translates to there shouldn’t be any stinginess in smiling. In an interview with ET, Good Day revealed that the ad campaign had resulted in over 12,000 tweets in a day and 104 million impressions on X, formerly twitter.

These advertisements remind us that behind every successful brand lies a powerful human story, and a simple smile can be the bridge that connects consumers to that narrative. From igniting a sense of unity to fighting for a social cause, these advertisements have carefully curated the message in a small ad and delivered it for the world to think about. Amidst the stressful jobs and fast paced lives, these ads remind us that a smile is not just a mere movement of facial muscles, it is a universal symbol of hope, comfort, humanity, and happiness. So, Loosen up a bit and smile more.
