CRIME DRAMAS THAT CAN MAKE YOUR JAW DROP!

SocialAdm June 18, 2021 1 Comment

INTRODUCTION

Crime dramas are a genre of films/shows that focus on criminals’ moral dilemmas. Such films/shows emphasise a bleaker and realistic representation of the criminal world above violence and gunfight sequences. Here is a list of some of the most jaw-dropping crime dramas out there.

PEAKY BLINDERS

Peaky Blinders is a BBC Two drama created by Steven Knight and set in Birmingham that first aired in 2013.

Thomas Shelby and his family run the most feared and powerful local gang, the Peaky Blinders. Named for their practice of sewing razor blades into the peaks of their caps, they make money from illegal betting, protection and the black market.

The story opens with the Shelby family, the Peaky Blinders’ leaders, in 1919, six months after the men’s return from the First World War. Tommy Shelby, the gang’s leader, has enormous intentions to extend the Shelby family’s legitimate and criminal companies.

What started as an ambition to expand the business to London, spirals into something deeper; something worse. Filled with drama, tears, tough decisions and merciless killings, the show is a rollercoaster ride.

BREAKING BAD

Walter White, a chemistry teacher who lives in New Mexico with his wife and teenage son who has cerebral palsy, is the protagonist of Breaking Bad. White is diagnosed with Stage III cancer and given a two-year life expectancy. White enters the perilous world of drugs and crime with a new feeling of fearlessness based on his medical diagnosis and a determination to protect his family’s financial stability. The story depicts White’s journey from a gentle family man to a kingpin of the drug trade after he receives a terminal diagnosis, which frees him from the daily cares and restraints of regular life.

Vince Gilligan and his talented writing crew created a show that regularly delivered on narrative themes and character motivations better than almost any other programme on television. Despite the show’s apparent simple concept, Breaking Bad was never simple. Multiple Easter eggs can be found throughout the show, making the show even more engaging.

SHERLOCK

Sherlock features Sherlock Holmes, a “consulting detective” who solves different mysteries in modern-day London. Dr John Watson, Holmes’ flatmate and friend, has returned from military service with the Royal Army Medical Corps in Afghanistan. Although Detective Inspector Greg Lestrade of the Metropolitan Police Service and others are first distrustful of Holmes, his great intelligence and daring abilities of observation eventually persuade them of his worth. Holmes becomes a reluctant celebrity, with the press focusing on his cases and quirky personal life, thanks in part to Watson’s blog chronicling their adventures. Ordinary citizens as well as the British government seek his assistance.

Even though the series presents a wide range of crimes and perpetrators, the fight between Holmes and his archenemy Jim Moriarty is a continuous theme.

Sherlock is one of those shows that can never go out of fashion. I can assure you that even if you watch it a million times, you’ll still not get bored!

CONCLUSION

Crime dramas are always a sure-shot hit in the truest essence. The shows not only depict a fantasy world full of affirmations but also make you live through it. Peaky Blinders, Sherlock and Breaking bad are only some of the best, but the list goes on! Click here to find more engaging genres on famous OTT platforms, covered by Social Buzz.

I’ve been wanting to watch Peaky Blinders for so long! I think I might just watch it now over the summer.
